PARENTS

We provide caring support for parent and infant wellbeing and mums and dads are welcome to bring in their babies to session. Sessions can focus upon antenatal support including fertility challenges and worries. We also provide expert care for postnatal depression and anxiety as well as common concerns such as sleep and settling babies. After having a child you can experience lots of changes in your emotional well being. Both mums and dads seek support for recovering from the birthing experience, through to adjusting to life as a parent. Our child Psychologists can help you with managing childhood temper tantrums, anxiety, and attachment difficulties.

FAQ’s for parents

Do you provide help for managing temper tantrums or not listening?

Yes, for many parents they can struggle with their child’s temper tantrums and not following instructions. There is so much information out there about behavioural and parenting strategies that it can be difficult to know where to start. When you see us we will ask lots of questions about your child, their development and your family as well as your values about parenting. This means that our guidance will be uniquely designed for you and your child. We step you through really clear strategies and it works!

What happens if my partner and I have really different styles of parenting?

Your style of parenting can be a mixture of the way that you were raised, your values, what you have read about parenting and the pressures in the family. There are so many expectations and judgements that come with parenting these days. It makes sense that you and your partner won’t always be aligned with your parenting style, however we do find that most parents are aligned with their goals. They want their children to be happy, healthy, resilient and caring. We work with you to find your parenting style that works for you and look at ways for it to work within the family. We distil research evidence and match it to your needs and your children’s needs. As you implement strategies that work, then your parenting styles can become complementary, even if they are different.

I don’t have time for a parenting program. Can I just come in for a session or two for some tips?

Yes, we design sessions to be useful for you. Many parents only need one or two sessions and then they might come back when their children are at a different developmental stage or there has been a change in the family. You can then have top-up sessions with a Psychologist that knows you and your family. Our team work closely together and so if needed you can also see someone with different expertise, such as our wonderful Neuropsychologists, and be assured that the sessions are all designed for your needs.

Can I bring my baby or young child in for a parenting session?

Yes, we have a large waiting room area with toys and our offices are designed for children as well as adults. Many mums and dads bring in their babies during sessions and we can time the session so it suits in terms of sleeping and feeding.
